BGR has an exclusive report today saying that Apple has provided its carrier partners with LTE-enabled iPhones for testing purposes. BGR comes about this knowledge via an internal iOS test build that it has seen from one of Apple’s main carriers, which reveals in its firmware a property list for LTE. As BGR notes, they have no way of knowing yet whether or not the next iPhone will have LTE capability, all that they are able to say for sure right now is that Apple is testing the feature, not which device it will actually be used in, or when. As BGR notes, with 4G LTE networks starting to roll out all over the world, it’s no surprise that Apple would be testing this in the field with its carriers. However, it’s ironic that with all the many, many iPhone 5 rumours swirling around, there seemed to be a general consensus of opinion that it would be quite some time before Apple started implementing LTE capability in its devices, possibly way into next year. Looks like that chatter may well have been inaccurate, and it’s possible we could be looking at a 4G LTE iPhone sooner rather than later.
